Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper, Three Gunrunners, Others In Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested three suspected notorious gunrunners supplying arms and ammunition to bandits hibernating in the Katsina forest.

The suspects are identified as Haladu Isah of Tsaskiya village, Safana Local Government Area;  Abubakar Ahmed of Sha’iskawa, Barhim, Katsina; and Adamu Musa Ba’ude of Niger Republic.

Their arrest, according to the spokesman of the Katsina Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq followed information received on April 6th, 2024, at about 20:00 at Kaita divisional headquarters on the nefarious activities of the trio.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kaita said police promptly swung into action with the suspects successfully traced and arrested along Dankama Road, Kaita LGA.

He explained that upon instant search, the suspects were found in possession of one million two hundred and three thousand naira (N1,203,000.00k) suspected to be meant for the payment of the ammunition.

According to him, efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the offence, stating that they were sent by one Harisu, now at large, a suspected notorious bandits kingpin terrorising Safana LGA and its environs to purchase the ammunition from one Sa’idu Ahmadu, of Niger Republic, now at large, and convey same back to the kingpin,” he said.

Arrest of Suspected Kidnapper

In a related development, the command arrested a suspected notorious kidnapper, Nafi’u Musa of Rinjin Baushe village, Bindawa Local Government Area, Katsina State.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives swung into action, where they successfully traced and arrested the suspect,” the command’s spokesman said.

“The suspect’s modus operandi was to call victims on the phone, claiming to be a kidnapper, and demanding that they pay a certain amount of money to a designated bank account or risk being kidnapped or a family member.

“In the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence; the investigation is still ongoing,” he noted.
