Popular movie director Kunle Afolayan and actor Tobi Bakre were some of the big winners at the prestigious 19th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
The 19th edition of the prestigious award was held in honour of the founder, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, who passed away on January 9, 2023. Various grand performances, speeches, dance choreography, and a wall moral were displayed in honour of her.
Acclaimed actress Nse Ikpe Etim picked the top prize for her role in the film 4-4-44 (four-four forty-four) over Bimbo Ademoye and Adesuwa Etomi.
Afolayan’s epic drama Anikulapo took home two wins for Best Film In An African Language and Best Achievement In Production Design.
Xale, the Senegalese thriller directed by Moussa Sene Absa, took home the most win for the night in four different categories, including Best Achievement In Costume Design, Best Actress In A Supporting Role, and The Coveted Best Film Category.
CJ Obasis directed Mami Water followed by three wins in different categories, including Best Achievement in Make-up, Best Achievement in Cinematography, and the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVB) award for best Nigerian film.
Other winners for the night include reality star turn actor Tobi Bakre for his role in the action thriller Brotherhood he takes home the statute for the best actor in a leading role. Haitian actor Jimmy-Jean Louis won the best actor in a supporting role category for the film Rise.
