Niger is a state in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria and the largest state in the country.

The Niger State Government has distributed the second trench of relief material which includes food and non-food items to the Internally Displaced Person (IDPs) from the Munya Local Government Area of the State.

The IDPs are taking refuge at the premises of the Model Primary School in the Gwada community of Shiroro Local Government Area of the state’s IDPs Camp.

Delivering the relief items in Minna, the state capital to the representatives of about 30 communities that made up the IDPs from Munya LGA was the Director-General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency,( NSEMA) Ahmed Inga.

He said the relief materials such as food items like several bags of rice, maize, millets, beans, and soup ingredients like 25 Litres Jerrycans of Palm Oil, Vegetable Oil, bags of salt, among other items were estimated at several millions of naira.

According to Inga, “We were directed to send the second trench of the relief materials on display here by the Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello, because during his visit to the IDPs camp in Gwada last Friday he observed that the earlier relief materials for the Internally Displaced Persons ( IDPs) from Munya local government may be inadequate for the victims of insecurity from different communities in the local government”.

He stated that earlier, the IDPs from Shiroro Local Government Area of the state who were being kept at the premises of the Central Primary School, Gwada have had their own relief materials taken to them at the camp, by NSEMA, led by the state Deputy Governor, Ahmed Ketso who represented the Governor during the symbolic distribution of the relief items which also includes Food and non Food materials and Cash in the sum of N2million to cushion the effects of the hardships on them.

He urged the people to ensure that the relief items get to the people who were directly affected and who were being kept at the Gwada IDPs camp, as well as making judicious use of the items in order to cushion the effects of the hardships on the people pending when adequate peace restored to their communities very soon after which they would relocate to their respective communities and homes.

Ahmed Inga described the decision for the symbolic distribution of the relief materials to a joint agreement between the Agency and the people, saying as Disasters Managers, NSEMA is using this as a Model in the state to distribute relief materials in Minna, the state capital as a result of unforeseen circumstances of allowing just anyone to take advantage of the innocent victims by dispossessing them of the items meant for them because there is hunger in the land and the situation is not peculiar to Niger State but Nigeria in general.”.

The Executive Chairman, Munya Local Government Council of Niger State, Garba Daza, on behalf of the entire people of the Local Government, expressed gratitude most especially to the State Governor, Abubakar Bello for making himself available for his people whenever they were having problems and his urgent intervention at the Government House in Minna.
