Educationalist Advocates Proper Training For Teachers

The former Commissioner of Education, Edo State, Professor Ngozi Osarenren, has stressed the need for proper training to be given to teachers from the elementary level (NCE) in order for them to have a better impact on students. 

She said most of the teachers just had the NCE certification which is the basic certification for teachers while some don’t have at all. She therefore advised appropriate authorities that there should be adequate training for the teachers and also pointed out that inspectors should go round schools and observe how teachers teach the students.

On Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily,  on Wednesday, she said that education was the only area where every “Nigerian claims to be an expert and because of that, those in the vanguard of implementing education policies are not knowledgeable about education”.

Professor Osarenren stated that “implementation of education policies have not been politicised” and questioned the government for not maintaining the public schools unlike in their days. She further stated that poor school system led to lack of confidence on the path of the teachers.
