South-South/South-East Governors Meet In Asaba

The city of Asaba on Sunday, played host to governors of the South-South and South-East region in a meeting which held in the new government house, Asaba. 

In a press briefing held at the new Government House, Asaba, a communique was jointly presented by Governors Liyel Imoke and PeterObi, as all the governors agreed to work together.

They  vowed to ensure economic and political integration in the region, development of infrastructures linking the region especially with federal roads.

The governors also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for ongoing rehabilitation of the nation’s airports.

The federal government was however urged to facilitate the implementation of the free trade zone, construct railway links, establish cargo airports, additional deep sea ports in the region and also dredge the  Calabar port.

During his speech, the governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi urged Nigerians to co-operate with the government in addressing crisis that are plaguing the nation’s such as kidnapping, pipeline vandalism and insecurity to secure the region its much needed investment.

The governors sympathized with the people of south east and the nation on the loss of literary icon; Prof Chinua Achebe, lauding his legacy.

Governors, Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta state, Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom state, Theodore Orji of Abia state, Peter Obi of Anambra state, Liyel Imoke of Cross river state, Dickson Seriake of Bayelsa state, Elechi Martins of Ebonyi state, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and Sulivian Chime of Enugu State.

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state and his Rivers state counterpart, Rotimi Amaechi, were not in the meeting.

The deputy governor of Rivers state represented the governor.

The meeting which held behind closed doors lasted for over four hours after which they all expressed they optimism about that the future of the region which they claim is one that would guarantee peace, security, development and economic stability.
