Cameron Diaz took centre stage in Bordeaux, not just as Hollywood superstars, but to hand over the acclaimed 'yellow jersey' to the Tour de France leader, Alberto Contador. The Hollywood A-listers have been on a global publicity blitz promoting their latest romantic action/comedy, "Knight and Day" which opened to largely luke-warm reviews and a disappointing box office performance in North America.
The extensive tour has taken the two stars to several South American and European cities but despite the exhausting schedule, Diaz said she wished all promotional trips could be like this one.
Cameron Diaz, said:"It's one of those things where you just kind of go 'pinch me, is this really my life' and Tom and I were just saying because yesterday we did Top Gear in England, in London, and that's such a huge thrill for us because we are both drivers, so we got to race cars all day yesterday. And then today we got to come and you know ride along the leaders in the Tour de France, and so it has just been like one of the-- if every press tour was like this, I'd be signing on, you know, or as long as they'd want me to."
The film sees Cruise as a government super-agent framed for stealing a top secret invention and hunted by his own colleagues.
Diaz's character also soon finds herself a target after literally bumping into the spy, and the two end up in a chase around the globe, pursued by the FBI and ruthless arms dealers.
Cruise said it was a chance to show audiences his funny side.
Tom Cruise said:"I wanted to do more comedy, I wanted to go back to something like character comedy. I know there is action in the movie, but I don't see the film as action, more as kind of adventure, caper, romantic comedy, so it was fun, we had fun characters to play."
"Knight and Day" opens in French cinemas on July 28.
