Yobe Govt Partners VSF On Skill Centres Construction For Insurgency Victims

In partnership with the Yobe state government, the Victims Support Fund has flagged off the construction and renovation of several skills acquisition centres across nine Yobe communities to restore the livelihood of the victims of Boko haram affected communities.

The Chairman of the fund, General Theophanous Danjuma represented by the Executive Director, Professor Nana Tanko, disclosed about ₦130m would be used to renovate and equip computer and tailoring centres, groundnut oil mill and processing centres among others.

“We have worked in several communities for several groups.  For example, in Gadaka we supported children with educational materials, children orphaned by the Boko Haram insurgency to find families that would take good care of them.

“Also, we set up saving and loan associations for women working in similar areas of economic activities.  The amazing thing is we can expend the little money that we have to do so well.

“The whole of the budget we are spending in these nine communities for this intervention is about a little less than ₦130m but the impact is more,” she said.

The Head of Programmes for Victims Support Fund, Andrew Shemba explains that skills acquisition centres, renovation of computer centres, and construction of oil and mill processing centres would be undertaken IN Fika, Gujba and Gulani local government areas of the state.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in the state, represented by the Director of Humanitarian Affairs, Kaku Jawi, commended VSF for intervening positively in the lives of the 9 communities.

He revealed that the support from the fund would go a long way in complementing the efforts of the state government towards post-insurgency recovery.

The Secretary of Gudi Emirate Council who spoke in Gadaka on behalf of the Emir and the beneficiaries of the intervention in the area thanked the VSF and sought for more intervention especially the victims of conflict.
